Social Worker: Adolescent and Young People Programme

1.Main Job Purpose

Develop, improve and implement targeted social service based initiatives focused on addressing the unique challenges faced by young women in relation to HIV and AIDS, sexual and reproductive health and overall wellbeing. Advance the rights of girls and women by doing advocacy, implement existing policy and motivate for policy reform. Link clients to support services such as statutory child protection, psycho-social services and economic strengthening initiatives.   Screen and identify psychosocial and mental health challenges experienced by clients.

2. Key Performance Areas

Psychosocial Programs and Support
  • Do regular area specific need assessments to determine services needs and services gaps for AGYW
  • Identify the platforms/locations  in communities including safe spaces, hot spots, places of learning from where the programme can be introduce and services can be delivered.
  • Adapt HIV prevention, testing, and treatment programming.
  • Integrate services: HIV, TB, GBV, STI, SRH.
  • Scale up HIV/TB legal support,.
  • Screen clients for psychosocial and mental health challenges.
  • Conduct full client assessments.
  • Facilitate adherence group counselling and contemplation groups.
  • Manage economic empowerment and parenting session cohorts.
  • Conduct human rights violation meetings and community discussions.
  • Implement improvements to psychosocial programs.
  • Follow up on referrals and ensure linkage to care.
  • Provide trauma and crisis counselling.
  • Maintain secure client records.
  • Draft SOPs and train peer educators and staff.
Support and Advocacy for AYP
  • Collaborate with advocacy officers and ambassadors.
  • Promote harm reduction objectives.
  • Develop and submit monthly event calendars.
  • Maintain and update gatekeeper lists.
  • Ensure safe and inclusive facility spaces.
  • Empower service users and hold them accountable.
  • Sensitize facility staff to reduce discrimination.
  • Liaise with management and stakeholders.
  • Represent ADOLESCENT AND YOUNG PEOPLE PROGRAMME in various forums.
  • Identify and report advocacy issues.
  • Collect human rights data and report violations.
  • Investigate and refer human rights violations.
  • Address performance issues and support training.
Monitoring and Organisational Engagements
  • Gather client feedback on services.
  • Maintain confidentiality and report to management.
  • Keep a project diary for operational insights.
  • Attend regular meetings and briefings.
  • Mobilize communities for upcoming events.
  • Activate legal support for ID-related issues.
  • Organize debriefing and counselling sessions.
  • Strengthen community platforms and networks.
  • Scale up stigma and discrimination reduction campaigns.
  • Accept additional delegated responsibilities.

3. Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree in Social Work
  • Registered with SACSSP or relevant council.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience with .Adolescent and Young people
  • Valid Code 10 Driver’s License with PDP.
  • Knowledge of HIV, TB, women’s reproductive health
