1.Main Purpose of the Role

The HTS counsellor is responsible for implementing HIV counselling and testing procedures for all clients at the Ivan Toms Centre and its mobile units. The HTS counsellor also provides all required outreach support to their Mobile Team Coordinator and Professional Nurse in order to successfully implement community-based support activities.

2. Key Performance Areas

Key Performance Areas Tasks and Activities
Client engagement education, and linkage ·       Conduct appointment reminders and follow up with clients as requested by the Professional Nurse or Mobile Team Coordinator.

·       Participate in venue-based and digital engagement activities to identify and link clients to facility and mobile services.

·       Provide general awareness, education to potential clients and the public regarding available services.

Counselling and Other Client Support Services ·       Conduct risk assessments and other project services as required such as index testing, EPOA etc.

·       Conduct HIV testing and counseling for MSM seeking services at Ivan Toms and its mobile units.

·       Ensure HTS services adheres to National Department of Health guidelines and policies and organizational protocols.

·       Provide counseling, health education, and support services for clients newly initiated and returning for follow up for ART and PrEP

·       Distribute commodities to relevant clients and venues

·       Engage Professional Nurse and Mobile Team Coordinator to facilitate each clients additional service requirements.

Administrative and Data Support ·       Ensure that all HTS stock and supplies are available as and when required for HTS services.

·       Comply with waste management, and infection control guidelines.

·       Complete reporting and clinical documentation for HTS, PrEP, ART, index testing, EPOA, confirmation of contact details and other registers as required.

·       Complete additional data entry and/or cleaning as and when required.

·       Complete additional admin or support activities as and when required by relevant stakeholder.

3. Qualifications and Exeperience

  • A minimum of Grade 12.
  • HIV counselling and testing certificate.
  • Experience working with networks of MSM’s in the Cape Town Metro
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in HCT services and HIV/public health.
  • Excellent customer service and support skills.
  • Willing to travel to various communities for outreach as and when required.
  • Willing to work flexible hours as and when required.
  • Data management and reporting skills.
  • Computer literacy (MS Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong communication and local language skills.
  • Innovative, organized, analytical, and data interpretation skills.
